30,000 meals and running

Do you remember where you were NYE 2020? A bunch of us rang in the new year camping in the desert with no idea we'd find ourselves waist deep in Food Justice a few months later. Amongst 200 others, everywhere you turned you could overhear "this is going to be the best year yet!". And in many ways, this year has had its bright spots, despite violence we've all come to know a little more personally. The duality of our reality is real. No pain no gain, light drives out darkness, bitter & sweet, the struggle for basic physical needs and the abundance of an actualized mind, the celebration of 30,000 meals served and the status quo of increasing evictions & houselessness.

On Home-y Made Meals TV episode on Food Justice, panelist after panelist spoke on the power of food and how a simple homemade meal changes the nature of outreach and holds the key to building critical relationships. It's through the process of going towards those society deems undesirable, getting closer to our marginalized neighbors, that 2020 has revealed to be a year of transformation; a year of holding both ideas simultaneously - celebration and dismay. We're stepping into our purpose more and more each day, and with each step comes new trials and tribulations. More than ever, to 2021 and beyond, we remove expectations and instead now say "come what may"! We're on this journey together now! With courage, compassion, and wonder, we'll continue adapting and building anew - serving with joy as we build power.

The more we've pulled back the curtain of politics the more we've realized innovative solutions must come from us, the people. So to combat feelings of overwhelm and helplessness, grounding in the truth of people power has kept us moving through the thick fog of racism & injustice. We've served over 30,000 meals alongside 500 volunteers and 300 donors. More than these statistics, recognizing the growth within each of ourselves is what it's all about. Change begins within, what's been changing inside you?
