The Creating Justice LA Peace and Healing Center turns 1!

The Peace and Healing Center is a testimony of community organizing, political action, and reimagining public safety. Led by the Los Angeles Black Worker Center and The Institute of Popular Education of Southern California, the #LocalEnforcementNow campaign engaged and mobilized everyday Angelenos to demand legislation, a local organization, and resources for protecting civil and human rights. In 2019 the Civil and Human Rights Law was passed by City Council and in 2020 the Civil and Human Rights Department began its work. Two years later, our coalition of Creating Justice LA, Polo’s Pantry, Eayikes, Skid Row Coffee, Skid Row People’s Market, and The Row Church was awarded a grant from a reparations initiative aiming to invest resources into the 9 most disenfranchised neighborhoods across the city, and we now have this resource, this beautiful mutual aid hub, for Skid Row residents and beyond.

On May 18, 2024 we are celebrating 1 year of its doors being open to the public with a Saturday full of food, music, wellness, and community love. Homeys have been faithfully powering homemade goodness every Wednesday and Friday, and our meals have become a reliable resource for Skid Row. Thank you Homeys for all you do, and we hope to see you at the One Year Anniversary Event!
