Supporting Our Supporters: Walking with United Way of Greater LA

Simply put, the people over at United Way of Greater Los Angeles have been a blessing to our program and our coalition. We’re especially grateful for their financial support of groups like ours and their desire to understand challenges grassroots initiatives face within the nonprofit industrial complex, so it was only right that we show up for them in the ways we can. On May 11 we laced up our walking shoes and headed over to SoFi Stadium for UWGLA’s family-friendly 5k walk/run: WalkUnitedLA!

It was great to get out, connect, and be in community with people “breaking cycles of poverty and building communities of prosperity”. While there, we learned about the history of this walk (it used to be on DTLA in partnership with Kobe Bryant) and took in all the various expressions of charity, solidarity, service, and mutual aid. From the art to the location, language used and intentions shared, we appreciated how UWGLA is bringing together everyday people earnestly desiring a more just and compassionate Los Angeles.
